Proper way to clean pacifiers?

My daughter likes her pacifier at bed time. But it seems to get everywhere and I worry about the germs. How often should they be washed? How should I wash them? I have a bottle steamer that I put my bottle threw after every wash. Would putting the pacifiers threw the steamer be the same as boiling?
